10 thoughts on...Golden Globes 2014.

  1. Amy Adams has won her first major competitive award. Finally!
  2. Could that translate to an Oscar win? I know it's rather premature to ask that question as most people aren't expecting her to be on the list of nominees but I suspect the surge in love for American Hustle plus the Academy's obvious support of her will see her nominated, and then she'll be on a list where she is the star of the Best Picture frontrunner and the only nominee without a previous win. She'll also be overdue after four nominations. Plus people like her. It could happen. Unlikely though.
  3. 12 Years A Slave could have done with losing here, to muster a backlash against the lighter American Hustle and Gravity (which I suspect would have been the only film to have taken the Film - Drama award instead). Now it remains the expected frontrunner, and a less exciting option than the starry American Hustle. I think this is a race that is almost over. Which is a shame.
  4. I wish Captain Phillips was in the running to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
  5. I hope Jennifer Lawrence doesn't repeat her Supporting Actress win over Lupita Nyong'o. And I doubt she will, the Oscars are less keen on rewarding people consecutively.
  6. People love Dallas Buyers Club. It's going to do well when the Oscar nominations are announced. But there seems to be a backlash against the acceptance speeches, particularly from Jared Leto. If American Hustle was to gain even more momentum perhaps that would make Bradley Cooper a possible winner?
  7. I'm very happy with Her's win for Screenplay. And The Great Beauty for Foreign Language Film.
  8. It's a shame Behind the Candelabra was released as a TV film in the US. It deserves to amongst the Film crowd.
  9. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are wonderful. That opening monologue hit all the right notes.
  10. Lupita Nyong'o was the best dressed of the night. Hands down.
