10 thoughts on...Stranger by the Lake

  1. This is a beautiful film to watch. Almost hypnotising.
  2. I want to be at a beach.
  3. There is a definite sense that while the film isn't focused in the sex, it definitely it's uninterested. It is portrayed as an attractive/enjoyable activity, unlike other films that have focused on sex (Nymphomaniac and Eyes Wide Shut spring to mind). And unlike Blue is the Warmest Colour this film doesn't feature it in a manner that you could call gratuitous. It happens, it's fun but it's not what the film is about.
  4. Why did the film need the murder storyline? There would have been a much better film if it had focused on the array of characters rather than the mysterious murdering femme fatale.
  5. Patrick d'Assumcoa's performance is terrific. It'll stay with me.
  6. The UK poster is probably my favourite thing about the film. Like the film, it's a rather pleasant yet unnerving thing.
  7. It's surprising that this film has been so widely embraced by audiences, heterosexual and homosexual, as it doesn't strike me as a great piece of cinema which foreign-language films usually have to be in order to have crossover appeal.
  8. This could have easily been set in Ireland or the UK. And that isn't something I can usually say about French films.
  9. Can someone please make the film I wish this was (see point 4).
  10. I need a holiday.
